Keto Cottage Cheese Recipes: Savory and Sweet.

Looking for keto cottage cheese recipes that are actually worth making? This collection brings together my favorite savory and sweet ways to use cottage cheese, with easy low-carb, high-protein recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and dessert.

Keto cottage cheese recipes

Cottage cheese has become one of my favorite ingredients to experiment with because it can do so much more than sit in a bowl with a few toppings. Blend it into a creamy sauce, bake it into flatbread, turn it into a pizza bowl, or use it to make a surprisingly good low-carb dessert.

I’ve made and tested the recipes in this collection in my own kitchen, with a focus on simple ingredients, plenty of protein and keeping the carbs low. You’ll find quick recipes for busy days as well as a few ideas when you feel like making something a little more substantial.

If you’re following keto more strictly, I’ve also included approximate net carbs per serving in the quick guide below to make choosing a recipe easier. Keep in mind that cottage cheese and other packaged ingredients can vary between brands, so always check the nutrition labels on the products you’re using.

Is Cottage Cheese Good for the Keto Diet?

Yes, cottage cheese can fit into a keto diet because it’s relatively low in carbohydrates while providing plenty of protein. The exact carb content varies between brands, so check the nutrition label and choose a plain, unsweetened cottage cheese that fits your daily carb target.

I generally prefer full-fat cottage cheese for keto recipes. Besides being richer and creamier, it’s particularly good for blended sauces, dips and desserts where a very low-fat cottage cheese can sometimes give you a thinner result.

Watch What You Pair It With

The other ingredients matter too. A cottage cheese sauce may be keto-friendly on its own, for example, but serving it over regular pasta obviously changes things considerably.

That’s why I’ve included approximate net carbs per serving in the recipe guide below, so you can quickly compare the recipes and choose ones that work for your own macros.

And portion size still counts. Cottage cheese may be low carb, but unfortunately that doesn’t give us permission to eat an entire cottage cheese cheesecake and call it keto meal prep. Tempting, though.

Keto Cottage Cheese Desserts

I started with the cottage cheese cookie dough and honestly thought, “OMG, this is actually amazing.” It took me about 7 minutes to make, and I couldn’t believe how good it was.

Then came the cottage cheese cake, which I’ve now made again and again for friends — and nobody can believe it’s a low-carb, sugar-free dessert.

I don’t use refined sugar in my recipes, and for these keto cottage cheese desserts, I use keto-friendly sweeteners like allulose, stevia, or sugar-free protein powder to keep the carbs low.

Creamy chocolate cottage cheese mousse is layered with a rich pistachio and tahini cream, then finished with crushed pistachios and optional sugar-free white chocolate. It’s indulgent enough to feel like a proper dessert while still packing around 22g of protein per serving.

My Tried-and-Tested Favorites

The cottage cheese pizza bowl surprised me the most. I’ll admit, when I first made it, I wasn’t entirely convinced that a bowl of cottage cheese could satisfy a pizza craving. But once it was baked with pepperoni, olives, red onion, and plenty of melted cheese on top, I completely understood the appeal. You get the flavors of pizza, but without the bready base; instead, it’s just creamier and cheesier.

My husband was initially a little confused about how this casserole-looking creation had anything to do with pizza, but once he spotted all his favorite pizza toppings, he came around pretty quickly.

The cottage cheese cake has also become a favorite with friends. One of my friends now asks me to make extra so she can take some home — which I consider a fairly reliable recipe review.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cottage Cheese Desserts

Yes, cottage cheese can fit into a keto diet because plain cottage cheese is relatively low in carbohydrates and high in protein. On average, a typical unsweetened or unflavored cottage cheese is approximately 4.5g of net carbs per 3.5 oz (100g); check brands carefully, as each brand may vary slightly.

I generally prefer full-fat cottage cheese for keto recipes because it has a richer, creamier texture, particularly in sauces, dips, and desserts.

There isn’t one amount of cottage cheese that everyone following keto should eat because it depends on your overall daily carbohydrate target and what else you’re eating.

A serving of around 1/2 cup (about 110–115 g) is a useful starting point, but check the nutrition information on your particular brand and include those carbs in your daily total. Remember that the other ingredients in your meal count too — not just the cottage cheese.

You can eat cottage cheese straight from the tub, but there are much more exciting options. Try it with eggs for a high-protein breakfast, blend it into queso or a creamy sauce, bake it into a pizza bowl, or use it to make low-carb desserts such as chocolate mousse or cottage cheese cake.

For something really simple, add savory toppings such as avocado, herbs, cucumber, olives or a little olive oil and seasoning.

For savory options, try a cottage cheese pizza bowl, almond flour quiche, cottage cheese flatbread, queso, egg bites or scrambled eggs with cottage cheese. Cottage cheese works especially well with eggs and cheese because it adds creaminess and protein without needing a lot of extra ingredients.

For a quick meal, I also like turning cottage cheese queso into something more substantial by adding seasoned ground turkey.
