Festive goat cheese appetizer vibes.
We are basically taking a simple goat cheese log and giving it a full holiday makeover. Think tangy goat cheese, crunchy pecans, and sweet pops of dried cranberries in every bite.
I shape mine into a little “trunk” for my Christmas charcuterie tree board and it always gets comments. It’s such a fun way to bring holiday season energy to your cheese board without any extra stress.
From sweet-and-savoury skeptic to super fan.
Confession time. I used to be that person who refused to mix sweet and savoury. Absolutely not.
Fruit with cheese? No way. Then I started developing recipes, cooking more at home, and everything changed. Now my salads are full of feta and watermelon, and kale and brussels sprouts with oranges, and I will never go back.
This goat cheese appetizer is one of those recipes that converted me for good. The creamy goat cheese pairs so beautifully with the sweet cranberries and toasty nuts. It gives the best flavor in every bite, without being too heavy before the main course.
Why you absolutely should try this goat cheese appetizer.
This is the kind of easy goat cheese appetizer you can throw together in 10 minutes. No food processor. No baking sheet. No cupcake pans. Just simple ingredients and a bit of chopping.
By the way, if you like this recipe, you should also check out my blueberry goat cheese recipe. Similar idea, but the log is coated in homemade blueberry compote.
It works for holiday parties, casual drinks, or even as a little starter before a relaxed Sunday main dish. You can serve it on crusty bread, crackers, or as goat cheese crostini with a drizzle of honey.
You can also tweak it if you love a different flavor twist. Add a thin slice of prosciutto on top, a spoon of fig jam, fig preserves, or fig butter, or even a tiny drizzle of balsamic glaze or balsamic vinegar and olive oil around the plate.
Let’s get a bit creative.
My favourite part is how pretty it looks on a Christmas spread. I nestle the goat cheese log at the base of my Christmas charcuterie tree board as the trunk, then build the tree with meats, cheeses, fresh fruit, and fresh herbs.
Use fresh thyme leaves or fresh rosemary sprigs around the base to make it feel extra festive. A little drizzle of honey or maple syrup across the top right before serving adds gorgeous shine and that sweet holiday touch.
You can also turn any leftovers into a quick goat cheese mixture for the next day. Let it come back to room temperature, mash it gently in a small bowl, and spread it onto toast or crusty bread. Such a delicious appetizer snack situation.
If you have a jar of cranberry sauce, warm a few spoonfuls in a small saucepan and swirl it around the plate. Or spoon some on the side with a few slices of fresh figs for a pretty pop of colour.
Ingredient swaps and tips.
You can easily use walnuts or almonds instead of pecans if that is what you have. Pistachios are also amazing if you want a different flavor and a bright green festive look.
If you are goat cheese obsessed, try a herbed goat cheese log for an extra hit of flavor. If you are not a goat cheese lover yet, you can mix in a little cream cheese to soften the tang, or even swap the log completely for a mild soft cheese.
This goat cheese appetizer also loves company on a cheese board. Add some blue cheese, brie, salami, olives, and a little bowl of olive oil and balsamic vinegar with red pepper flakes for dipping bread. It turns into an easy recipe spread that feels really special.

Easy Cranberry Pecan Goat Cheese Appetizer.
Equipment
Ingredients
- 120 ounce fresh goat cheese log thats around 120g log (small size)
- 1/4 cup small handful
- 1/4 cup small handful
- 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
Optional rosemary element:
- 2-3 strings fresh rosemary
To serve:
- 8-10 Water or Seeded Crackers
- 4 Thin slices of crusty bread or toasted baguette
- A few slices of apple pear, or 1–2 fresh figs
Instructions
- Chop pecans and cranberries together with a large knife.
- Add the chopped cranberries and pecans to a large flat plate.
- If you are using chopped rosemary, stir it into the cranberry and pecan mixture now. This gives the coating a subtle herby flavour.
- Place the goat cheese log on a small plate or board. Drizzle maple syrup or honey over the log and gently spread it around with the back of a spoon. You want a light, sticky layer to help the coating cling.
- Tip the cranberry and pecan mixture onto a clean plate. Roll the goat cheese log over the mixture, pressing gently so the coating sticks all over the outside. Use your hands to press extra coating into any bare patches.
- Chill for about 20 minutes if you want it slightly firmer, or serve it straight away if the cheese is holding its shape well.
- Right before serving, drizzle a tiny extra ribbon of honey or maple syrup over the top. Arrange crackers, baguette slices, and fruit around the log. Garnish with a few rosemary sprigs for that cosy holiday look.

Make ahead, storing, and leftovers.
You can make this goat cheese appetizer earlier in the day. Place it on a small plate, cover gently, and chill in the fridge until your guests arrive.
Let it sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before serving, so the goat cheese softens slightly. The texture will be creamier and easier to spread.
Leftovers keep well for two to three days in a container in the fridge. Spread them on toast or crackers for a quick snack, or add little crumbles to a salad for a sweet, tangy hit.
