Nice to meet you, I'm Liv,

About Me!

Hi, I’m Liv Banks, the recipe developer and creator behind Earth & Oven. I’m also a certified personal trainer and health and wellness writer with more than 15 years of experience helping people build stronger, healthier lives.

At Earth & Oven, I create protein-forward, lower-sugar recipes made with wholesome everyday ingredients. You’ll find plenty of naturally lower-carb options here too, but I don’t believe in rigid food rules. My approach is simple: cook intentionally at home, prioritise protein and nutritious ingredients, and leave room for flexibility in real life.

My own journey into cooking became much more personal years ago, when I started dealing with unexplained bloating, sluggishness and gut discomfort. Despite living an active lifestyle as a personal trainer, I couldn’t work out why I wasn’t feeling my best.

That experience pushed me to look more closely at the foods I was eating and to cook more meals from scratch using simple, minimally processed ingredients. Over time, I felt a noticeable improvement in my digestion and energy, and home cooking became an even bigger part of the way I look after my health.

A few things about me besides my obvious passion for food and cooking.

What Earth And Oven Is All About

I’m the kind of person who reads nutrition labels for fun (I just can’t help myself). But I also know that most people don’t have the time or patience to analyse every ingredient that goes into their food. That’s one reason I love cooking from scratch using simple, wholesome ingredients and sharing recipes that make doing the same at home feel achievable.

Protein and lower-sugar cooking are at the heart of Earth & Oven. I naturally gravitate toward lower-carb meals too, so you’ll find plenty of low-carb and keto recipes here, but I don’t believe carbohydrates need to be avoided altogether. Oats, fruit, pasta and whole grains all have a place in my kitchen.

My approach is about making intentional choices rather than following rigid food rules. I prioritise protein, use whole and minimally processed ingredients where practical, and usually choose alternatives to refined sugar such as allulose, monk fruit or stevia. Most importantly, the food still has to taste genuinely good—because a “healthy” recipe nobody wants to eat isn’t very useful.

My Philosophy: Strength and Health for the Long Term

As a certified personal trainer with more than 15 years of experience, I’ve spent much of my career helping people build healthier habits through movement, strength training and nutrition.

For me, eating well and staying active aren’t simply about looking a certain way. They’re about having the strength, energy and mobility to keep doing the things you love as you get older.

I also don’t believe healthy eating needs to mean eating perfectly. I cook intentionally at home, but I leave room for birthdays, restaurants, holidays and real life. That balance is an important part of the philosophy behind Earth & Oven: build healthy everyday habits that you can actually sustain.

How I Develop My Recipes

Every recipe on Earth & Oven is developed and tested in my own kitchen before I share it with you. I often test different ingredient amounts, substitutions or cooking times to find the version that gives the best combination of flavour, texture and nutrition.

I also have a wonderful unofficial beta-testing crew among my personal training clients. Many of them cook my recipes at home and give me honest feedback about how the recipes worked in their own kitchens. Sometimes their feedback leads me to test or update something; other times it simply confirms that the recipe works just as intended.

That feedback is particularly useful for recipes involving alternative ingredients, including many of my gluten-free and almond flour recipes. My clients have different cooking experience, preferences and dietary needs, so hearing how a recipe performs outside my own kitchen gives me another perspective before and after I publish it.

My family and friends get recruited for plenty of taste testing too. And if a recipe needs another round of testing, I make it again. Sometimes that means there are five versions of banana bread sitting on my kitchen bench, but somebody has to do the hard work.

I try to give you the practical details I would want when following a recipe myself: substitutions I’ve actually tested, cooking tips, clear measurements, nutrition information and honest notes about what worked best.

Let’s Cook Together

Whether you’re here for a high-protein breakfast, a lower-sugar dessert, an easy family dinner or one of my low-carb favourites, I hope Earth & Oven helps make healthy home cooking feel a little easier — and a lot more delicious.

I’m always developing, testing and sharing new recipes. You can also follow Earth & Oven on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Pinterest for new recipes, cooking inspiration and a behind-the-scenes look at what’s happening in my kitchen.

Welcome to my kitchen.

Yours in health & deliciousness,
